The MAPS Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is the creation of founder Louis Ladakakos. Its mission
is to provide scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School Seniors at their graduation. The
acronym "MAPS" stands for the third letter in the surnames of four dedicated and
revered educators from Old Orchard Beach: E. Emerson Cummings, Herbert R. Bean, Jerome A. LePelletier,
and John McSweeney.
MAPS has evolved from Mr. Ladakakos' energies and vision. He initiated the "Breakaway Race", a course acredited by the U.S. Track and Field Association, ten years ago. The monies realized from this race form the corpus of the monies for the scholarship.
Funding this scholarship is a major goal, YOUR contribution would be much APPRECIATED and is tax-deductable.
This year MAPS awarded seven $500.00 scholarships to members of the graduating class. The gift will be designated for the second semester of the recipients first year in post-secondary education, assuming the person has maintained a 2.0 GPA. The award is unrestricted. It is MAPS hope that each year the number and amount of scholarships awarded will increase. The race funding has the capacity for dramatic growth.
